JAZZ LAB AT BURLINTON’S DISCOVER JAZZ FESTIVAL
As longtime supporters and collaborators, we couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of Burlington’s Discover Jazz Festival. From 2010 – 2012, we collaborated with the festival and BCA for a three-day experiment, transforming the second floor of the Firehouse Gallery into a public, fully operational recording studio. Offering an unfiltered glimpse into the artistic and technical processes for recording live music in a studio environment, with artist performances and Q&A sessions.
Each session was live-streamed while we engineered and produced live performances from a different artist each day. From rising stars to local legends, music of all kinds graced our “pop up recording studio,” including, YoUSAy Placate, Manual Moon, The Villanelles, BTV/NOLA Experiment, Snarky Puppy featuring Lucy Woodward, Barika, Craig Mitchell & Motor City, Joshua Glass, and Greg Davis/Mike Gamble.
Some performances were purely improvised live concerts while others aimed at recording and producing tracks for official release. You can hear Barika’s performance of “Remember” from JazzLab on their album of the same name. Joshua Glass also took his JazzLab recordings back to the studio, ultimately adding more parts and releasing “Megaphone” on the album “Smile Off The Clock” in 2020.
