Surf band, The High Breaks (Matt Hagen, Kevin Lynam, Todd Gevry) team up with DJ Kanganade, rapper Boxguts, freestyle extraordinaire Humble, producer Rico James and voice over artist Kris Brown for a project dubbed, “The High Break Beats”.

The High Break Beats combine the quick bop of surf music with turntablism (the art of percussively scratching vinyl records) which is traditionally found in hip-hop. DJ Kanganade’s masterful execution of scratching complements the tight, reverb laden compositions of The High Breaks as added percussion. In addition to The High Breaks’ original take on surf music, “The High Break Beats” incorporate a slight genre shift into more down tempo, tropical grooves that feature lyrical rap work by guest MC’s. The result is a collective and cohesive example of creative intent.
