Zach Nugent celebrates release of debut album “Good so far” with new single featuring peter rowan

Guitarist Zach Nugent recruited bluegrass legend Peter Rowan to contribute to his new single, “Some Place I Call Home.” The song, Nugent’s first original, is featured on his forthcoming studio album, Good So Far, set for release September 16.

“Recording ‘Some Place I Call Home’ with Peter was effortless and such a moving experience,” Nugent told JamBase. “The instant that I heard his raw take, I knew that it was exactly what the song needed, and even more special than I hoped it would be. Peter took a liberty or two to throw in some classic Rowan-isms, and for me, they tie the whole tune together.”

Peter Rowan is one of many guests who contributed to Good So Far. Nugent is also joined on the LP by musical guests John Popper (Blues Traveler), Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan), Russ Lawton (Trey Anastasio Band), Ray Paczkowski (Trey Anastasio Band), Jackie LaBranch (Jerry Garcia Band), Cheryl Rucker (JGB), Sunshine Garcia Becker (Furthur), Josh Weinstein (Kat Wright), Matt Schrag (Dojo) and Cotter Ellis (Swimmer). “Some Place I Call Home” features Rowan, Nugent, Cashdollar on dobro, Lawton on drums, Paczkowski on keys and Weinstein on bass.

The former Melvin Seals & JGB guitarist recorded the nine-track LP here at TRS with Ben Collette engineering/mixing this past winter, with Fred Kevorkian on Mastering duties. Good So Far features Zach’s first foray into original music as he wrote all but one of the songs on the album.

Although the first single – and half the album – is acoustic, the electric half of the record features Zach on Jerry Garcia’s “Wolf” electric guitar. Good So Far will mark the instrument’s first appearance on a studio release since the 1978 Grateful Dead album Shakedown Street.
